ANNUAL
PRIZE OF THE BRUNO ZEVI FOUNDATION, ROME,
FOR A HISTORICAL-CRITICAL ESSAY ON ARCHITECTURE
COMPETITION
RULES
Art. 1
With a view to developing and disseminating the teaching of Bruno
Zevi and his method of critical and historical inquiry, the Bruno
Zevi Foundation is holding an international competition to award
a prize for a historical-critical essay offering an original analysis
of an architectural work or theme or an architect of the past or
present.
The competition is divided into five sections corresponding to the
following themes:
- the key role of space in architecture
- the ancient sources of the modern language
- history as methodology of architectural practice
- the modern language of architecture
- landscape and the zero-degree language of architecture
Art. 2
The competition is open to holders of research doctorates with experience
in the fields listed above.
Art. 3
Essays already published in Italy are not eligible.
Art. 4
The languages admitted are Italian, English and French.
Art.5
The prize consists of publication in the Quaderni of the Bruno Zevi
Foundation and a stay of 30 days at the Bruno Zevi Foundation in
Rome for study purposes.
Art. 6
The prize is awarded annually.
Art. 7
The Jury of the first edition is composed of the following: Jean-Louis
Cohen, Zvi Hecker, Alessandra Muntoni, Antonino Saggio, Dennis Sharp.
Art.8
Those wishing to enter for the competition are required to provide
the Bruno Zevi Foundation with the following by no later than September,
30, 2006 (as attested by postmark):
a) a completed application form including personal data, details
of the section in which the essay is entered, and its title
b) the complete text of the essay (max. 120,000 keystrokes including
notes, etc.) and illustrations on CD with two copies on paper
c) an abstract (1,500 keystrokes).
Art.9
The essays entered for the competition and not awarded the prize
will not be returned. Copies will be catalogued and filed in a specific
section of the Bruno Zevi Foundation Library at the disposal of
its users.
Art. 10
The winner will receive notification by registered letter of the
date of the award, which will also be made public together with
the name of the recipient on the site www.fondazionebrunozevi.it.
